Please join us for the first PTSA association mtg this Tuesday at 6:30pm. There are only (4) association meetings this year. So, don’t miss out! We will meet in the auditorium on the Woodlake campus at 6:30. Child care services are provided by the YMCA during the meeting. So we hope to see you there this Tuesday night at 6:30pm.
Very Special Valentine’s Weekend Fundraiser for Woodlake 5th Graders (opened to entire school). The National Hit Comedy Show “3 Blonde Moms” will donate 20% of proceeds (after expenses covered) from this show at the Ice House in Pasadena on February 11 at 6:00 PM! Tickets are $17.50 each. There will also be a Woodlake 5th Grade Bake Sale at the Meet & Greet after the show! This fundraiser will support the 5th graders’ upcoming events as the graduating class! Hope to see you there.
Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent John Deasy and school board member Tamar Galatzan will appear Wednesday at a town hall discussion sponsored by the Daily News. Local parents, students, teachers and residents will be able to ask a range of questions on education and school budgeting during the forum to be moderated by Daily News columnist and radio host Doug McIntyre.
The discussion will likely touch on some of the most pressing issues facing Valley schools, including budget cuts, the future of charter and magnet schools and Deasy’s proposal to put a $270-a-year parcel tax on the ballot to fund local campuses.
The town hall begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, in El Camino Real Charter High School’s Grieb Theater at 5440 Valley Circle Blvd. in Woodland Hills.

Updated date and time: Tuesday, January 24 at 7pm, the Woodlake Parent Center will be hosting a Homework Discussion meeting. This meeting’s purpose is to explore the current homework situation at Woodlake, and decide if there is any need for changes. These possible changes can be made child by child, or perhaps changes could be suggested school-wide. It may be decided that there are no need for changes. Please join us in the Woodlake Parent Center, Room 24, tomorrow Tuesday, January 17th to talk. Children are welcome, because there is an area in the Parent Center for them to play. Please email joy@ferrante.net if you plan to make it!
Woodlake has an opportunity to participate in the donorschoosela.org in two ways:
1. Wasserman foundation donated $15/parent to fund teacher chosen projects through donorschoose.org. Our teachers can set up an account, create a project and request funding for a wide variety of “projects” from a new carpet for the Kindergarten classroom or iPod Touches, art supplies and more. This opportunity ends 2/16/12. We have one month to take advantage of this “FREE” money!
Many of our teachers are not tech savvy and/or don’t have the time to make this happen. I suggest finding a parent per classroom for those teachers who need help.
The website has very easy to follow instructions, but it will require a digital photo and some time to set it all up.
2. Starbucks is teaming up with Wasserman Foundation to give out $10 donation gift cards on Monday, January 23rd. People need to go to Starbucks and make a purchase to receive a $10 gift card for DonorsChooseLA.org (1 per person). They expect these cards will all be gone within 2-3 days, so we need to take action on January 23rdto take advantage of this opportunity for our kids and our classrooms! See below for more details.
I know that each of you spends an incredible amount of time and energy working to bring critical resources to our school. This is a unique chance to bring in much needed resources without asking anyone to write a check!
Please help me to spread the word and get teachers whatever help they need to take advantage of these programs before they expire on February 16th!
Respectfully,
Kim Silverman
