Plans are underway for Tamar’s first-ever San Fernando Valley Science Fair, scheduled for April 14th at Bassett Elementary School in Lake Balboa. The idea originated with Marci Lewis, who teaches science to third, fourth and fifth graders at the school. (We recently covered a story on their new science lab, here). Marci wanted to find a venue for her students to compete against other students, so that they would be exposed to a greater variety of science projects. “I’m thrilled to be able to celebrate student science projects,” said Tamar. ”Not only are we making science fun, but we are preparing a generation of future scientists in a field that is full of opportunities.”
Tamar’s staff is working with Lewis on the event, which will be open to any fourth or fifth graders from the San Fernando Valley who have won 1st to 4th place in their school’s science fair, individually, or group projects. All areas of science are eligible.
Tamar’s office is seeking community organizations or businesses which may want to help sponsor the event with prizes for the young students. To participate, contact Denise Campos at Denise.Campos@lausd.net
