The discussion will likely touch on some of the most pressing issues facing Valley schools, including budget cuts, the future of charter and magnet schools and Deasy’s proposal to put a $270-a-year parcel tax on the ballot to fund local campuses.

The town hall begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, in El Camino Real Charter High School’s Grieb Theater at 5440 Valley Circle Blvd. in Woodland Hills.

So, we can still get a huge amount of funding for our teachers with the Starbucks program!

We currently have 16 projects approved waiting for funding, 8 projects fully funded and many more waiting for approval which is likely to happen Monday or Tuesday!

There are also numerous locations in Century City, downtown etc…  A list has been uploaded to the Donors Choose documentation.  Please scan the list and see if you have friends or family near any of the listed stores and try to get as many cards collected and delivered to your child’s teacher as you can.

P.S.  Woodlake Teachers got 4 more projects approved and 3 more funded on DonorsChoose.org TODAY!!!!!

Of course, this can change at any time, but we can all work together to stay in the lead and win $2,500 for Woodlake!  January is double points month.  Here is a link to the current flyer, with some reminders about how the program works:

Just a few points to highlight:
1)  If you log receipts yourself at the concierge, the hours of operation are 11:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. Mon-Fri, 11-8 on Saturday, and 11-7 on Sunday.  They will stamp the receipts and hand them back to you right away.
2)  You can leave receipts in the main office at school.  Just please make sure to tell us if you want them returned.
3)  Please collect receipts from family and friends too!
4)  For every new email sign-up, it is 2,000 points.  This is a really easy way to build up our points without spending any money!
5)  Westfield gift cards earn 1,000 bonus points per card purchased, plus points for the value of the card.

Woodlake has an opportunity to participate in the donorschoosela.org in two ways:

1.        Wasserman foundation donated $15/parent to fund teacher chosen projects through donorschoose.org.  Our teachers can set up an account, create a project and request funding for a wide variety of “projects” from a new carpet for the Kindergarten classroom or iPod Touches, art supplies and more.  This opportunity ends 2/16/12.  We have one month to take advantage of this “FREE” money!

Many of our teachers are not tech savvy and/or don’t have the time to make this happen.  I suggest finding a parent per classroom for those teachers who need help.

The website has very easy to follow instructions, but it will require a digital photo and some time to set it all up.

2.       Starbucks is teaming up with Wasserman Foundation to give out $10 donation gift cards on Monday, January 23^rd.  People need to go to Starbucks and make a purchase to receive a $10 gift card for DonorsChooseLA.org (1 per person).  They expect these cards will all be gone within 2-3 days, so we need to take action on January 23^rdto take advantage of this opportunity for our kids and our classrooms!  See below for more details.

I know that each of you spends an incredible amount of time and energy working to bring critical resources to our school.  This is a unique chance to bring in much needed resources without asking anyone to write a check!

Please help me to spread the word and get teachers whatever help they need to take advantage of these programs before they expire on February 16^th!
