Frequently Asked Questions
Attendance: The success of our students is directly related to time in class. Please schedule appointments, vacations, and special event celebrations outside the school day/calendar. It is very important that your child is here by 7:55 AM. If your child is late or absent, you will receive 2 automated phones calls at 9:30 AM and at 6:00 PM from the District.
Coffee with the Principal: There will be monthly “Coffees” with Ken McGee for parents following the morning assembly. This is an opportunity to learn more about Woodlake. Remember that parents are always welcome to the morning assembly and coffee with the principal.
Volunteer Policy: Thank you for following our closed campus policy. Parent volunteers are always welcome but must have approval from the teacher and must have a current TB Test on file in the office. We maintain a closed campus for the safety of the students and staff, in compliance with District regulations.
Emergency Cards: Please be sure there is an emergency card for each child on file. This is very important in case of an accident or an emergency.
Classroom Interruptions: As you know, our office is very busy and our goal is to provide uninterrupted instructional time for our students. Please help us by not calling or asking the office staff to deliver items to your child. Please inform your child that he/she may come to the office at recess or lunch to see if a missing or forgotten item has been delivered. If a lunch ticket or money has not been delivered, the procedure is for the child to call home because the office does not have a fund to replace lost or forgotten lunch money. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Office Traffic: The Hatteras Gate is open from 7:30 – 8:00 AM and from 2:22 – 2:40 PM for children to access the campus. Parents still need to sign in at the front office between 7:30 and 1:30 to enter the campus. Please do not use the office to enter or leave the campus after 1:30. After 2:22 parents are asked to use the Hatteras, Califa or Woodlake Gate to enter the campus. The Califa Gate will remain open until 3:00. DO NOT PARK IN OR WALK THROUGH THE STAFF PARKING LOT (Vehicle Code 21113).
Cell Phones: If your child has to bring a cell phone to school it MUST be turned off and kept in their backpack or other place where it is not visible during school hours. If it is used during school hours it will be taken away and the parent will have to come to school to retrieve it. Students must comply anytime a request is made by school personnel to cease using a cell phone, pager, or other electronic signaling device.
Homework: If your child is sick and you want to pick up homework for them, please call before 10:00 AM to be able to pick up the homework after school.
Healthy Star Kids: Woodlake continues to have a strong commitment to fitness, wellness and health education. Woodlake has an amazing PE program under the direction of Coach Danni supported by parent volunteers. Mrs. Fink leads Fitness Fun Days and a committed staff is dedicated to teaching health education. Get involved in the Healthy Star at Woodlake program by contacting Jill Fink at 347-7097.
Campus Safety: Due to safety concerns, strollers and toddlers are not allowed on campus during classroom hours. Anyone on campus between 8:00 and 2:22 PM needs to have permission to be on campus, sign in at the office, and wear a visitor’s sticker. (Special events are exceptions for little ones).
Cafeteria News: Breakfast is served from 7:30 – 7:50 AM. Parents are not allowed to stay and eat with their child because of Federal guidelines. Breakfast is also served from 10:00 – 10:20 and cost $.60. Students with dietary needs may bring a doctor’s note and we will accommodate the needs. Instead of sending money everyday, tickets can be purchased in the cafeteria between 8:00 and 10:00 AM. Tickets are $1.00 each, or you can buy a sheet of 22 for $20.00.
Dress Code: Skate shoes (Heelies) are not allowed at school. Please remember to dress your students appropriately: no spaghetti straps, no tank tops or halter tops, no short shorts, and sandals must have a back strap and toe covering.
Youth Services: Youth Services is from 2:22-5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. There is no charge for this service but children must be at least 7 years old to participate. This is not a day care program; attendance is not taken. Participants arrive and leave at their own discretion and of their own volition. Participation is a privilege. Students must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with the rules and regulations of the school and playground.
Woodlake YMCA is here for you: The YMCA is currently accepting limited enrollment for our 2009/2010 before and after school program. Birthday Recognitions: In order to provide uninterrupted instructional time, the school’s policy provides two options for parents to recognize their child’s birthday.
