Visit Our Website: You can access links to the calendar, menu, upcoming activities etc. The website address is www.woodlakeschoolptsa.com
Visitor’s Policy: All campus visitors must request an appointment for a visitation date and time at the front office. All visitors must be approved by the school administration.
Volunteer Policy: Thank you for following our closed campus policy. Parent volunteers are always welcome but must have approval from the teacher and must have a current TB Test on file in the office. This policy will be strictly enforced. If you are volunteering in one classroom, please do not visit another classroom if you are not expected by that teacher. We are maintaining a closed campus to ensure the safety of the students and staff, in compliance with District regulations. Also, please do not enter or leave the campus though the auditorium or staff parking lot gate.
Emergency Cards: Please be sure there is a current emergency card for each child on file. This is very important in case of an accident or an emergency.
Classroom Interruptions: As you know, our office is very busy and our goal is to provide uninterrupted instructional time for our students. Please help us by not calling or asking the office staff to deliver items to your child. Please inform your child that he/she may come to the office at recess or lunch to see if a missing or forgotten item has been delivered. If a lunch or money has not been delivered, the procedure is for the child to call home because the office does not have a fund to replace lost or forgotten lunch money. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Office Traffic: The Hatteras Gate is open from 7:30 – 8:00 AM and from 2:22 – 2:40 PM for children to access the campus. Parents still need to sign in at the front office between 7:30 and 1:30 to enter the campus. Please do not use the office to enter or leave the campus after 1:30. After 2:22 parents are asked to use the Hatteras, Califa or Woodlake Gate to enter the campus. The Califa Gate will remain open until 3:00. DO NOT PARK IN OR WALK THROUGH THE STAFF PARKING LOT (Vehicle Code 21113).
Cell Phones: If your child brings a cell phone to school it MUST be turned off and kept in their backpack or other place where it is not visible during school hours. If it is used during school hours it will be taken away and the parent will have to come to school to retrieve it. Students must comply anytime a request is made by school personnel to cease using a cell phone, pager, or other electronic signaling device.
Birthday Recognitions: In order to provide uninterrupted instructional time, the school’s policy provides two options for parents to recognize their child’s birthday.
be placed on the inside cover in honor of the birthday child. The librarian will make a special presentation to the child in the classroom.
Attendance: The success of our students is directly related to time in class. Please schedule appointments, vacations, and special event celebrations outside the school day/calendar. Please make sure your child is on campus by 7:55 when the 1st bell rings. This school year all gates will close promptly at 8:00 AM. We have a perfect attendance incentive program which includes student rewards and an end of the year celebration.
Animals on Campus: Absolutely no pets are allowed to visit the campus without approval. The District has guidelines for student safety and liability. If you have a guest coming for presentation or sharing experience, please get approval.
Homework: If your child has missed school for 2 days or more and you want to pick up homework for them, please call before 10:00 AM to be able to pick up the homework after school.
Campus Safety: Due to safety concerns, strollers and toddlers are not allowed on campus during classroom hours. Parents attending an event in theParentCenter may take toddlers with them to theParentCenter. Anyone on campus between 8:00 and 2:22 PM needs to have permission to be on campus, sign in at the office, and wear a visitor’s sticker. (Special events are exceptions for little ones).
Cafeteria News: Breakfast is served at Woodlake from 7:30-7:50 AM. Any late arrivals need teacher permission to eat after 7:50. Parents are not allowed to stay and eat with their child because of Federal Government guidelines. Breakfast is also served from 10:00 – 10:20 and cost $.60. Menus are available monthly on the website or in the office. Students with dietary needs may bring a doctor’s note and we will try to accommodate the needs. If you would like to add to your child’s account, please see April Qader in the cafeteria between 7:30 and 10:00 AM.
Youth Services: Youth Services is from 2:23-6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. There is no charge for this service but children must be at least 7 years old to participate. Children can stay until 6:00 pm, or be allowed to walk home. This is not a day care program but a permission slip must be signed. Participants arrive and leave at their own discretion and of their own volition. Participation is a privilege. Students must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with the rules and regulations of the school and playground.
Woodlake YMCA is here for you: For more information please come by our building or call us at (818)348-8284. Ask for Travis Johnson. Have a great school year!
Opportunity for Participation: There are three Councils that have responsibility for reviewing school matters: School Site Council, English Learners Advisory Council, and Local School Leadership. If you are interested, please let the office know. The council meetings will usually be held the 1st Thursday of the month, at 2:30 pm, beginning in October and parents are always welcome.
The responsibilities of the councils are:
School Site Council: Review the implementation of the School Improvement Plan and budget, monitor the School-Based Coordinated Program and assess the effectiveness of the programs.
English Language Advisory Council: Advise and assist the school staff and principal in implementing and evaluating the Master Plan, assisting in development of the school plan, bilingual budget, needs assessment, and administration of the language census.
Local School Leadership: Reviews schedule of school activities, use of equipment, some budgets, including instructional materials and textbooks.
